Winter has arrived

Bright sunshine, strong winds, heavy snow showers and bitter cold.   Yes, Winter has arrived this morning here in the Yorkshire Dales.   And the sheep know it.

First thing this morning the farmer took two  silage racks full of fresh silage down to the fields where the sheep are.  In order to get at the grass the sheep were having to scratch the snow away - so at last they capitulated - or rather most of them did.   The farmer took the camera.   Some of the sheep followed the tractor, some completely ignored it.   But they will all come round and by lunch time they will all be eating the sheep nuts and the silage.

The snow is set to go quite quickly and very strong winds return, although the farmer says it is not yet above freezing.   It is so bad this morning that our newspapers had not come when he went to the shop for them at 7am.   He has just gone back again - I am suffering from Times deprivation.

Keep snug and warm.

Thank the farmer for the photos might be the only snow we see. It's a rare thing over here on the east coast

Just a few flakes here during the night. Now bright and bitter cold. it seems that we will get the opposite later as they forecast winds and rain.
I have planned to spend the afternoon in the greenhouse.
Keep warm Pat.

I know it is a nuisance but I love crisp snow and blue skies, and especially the sheep lined up after the tractor, almost could go into the 'Countryfile' calendar!

Brrr but what lovely photos. We had a dusting of snow but plenty of ice this morning. I fairy stepped up the pavement, with Twiglet by my side shouting 'whee look at me sliding:)'. When his pal caught us up I said, you walk down with T, ok???? Bad Mum alert !

I think the farmer is very good to you!...
and the sheep...
super crisp pictures.
I get the real New York Times but Robert reads it 'online' - he gets it through my subscription.
Maybe the same in England?

Lovely shadows and a bright blue sky - I see the little footprints (should that be hoof prints?), and with all that sunshine you may even have green grass showing again by now!

Thank the farmer for toting the camera along and sharing such lovely pics.

Cozy up - Mary

It looks so beautiful - I love the shadows on the snow. Hope it doesn't cause too many problems for you and the farmer, and that you get yours hands on The Times double quick!
Thankyou Farmer for the lovely pics.

Cold, but beautiful! Boring old Southport had a dusting of snow on the car at 5.00 a.m., but by 8.00 a.m. it had completely disappeared. Best to be warm a cozy reading The Times with a nice cuppa!

Brr, sheep are such foolish creatures, hope they get sorted.

Good thing that the sheep have their woolly coats - I wouldn't want to be out on a day like that.

Ah-HA! Cleaning my glasses made all the difference. They're SHEEP following the tractor. I thought it was the silage and sheep nuts. Husband is forever cleaning my glasses while exclaiming, "HOW do you SEE through these things!?" Maybe he's right if it's gotten so bad I can't tell a sheep from a nut!
Josephine is all kinds of purry this morning at your compliment of the new header.

Very crisp weather!
So you can still have real paper newspapers to lay out on the table and turn the pages! Ours are going more thin and seer daily; must go to the internet to find the news I read in a paper the last sixty odd years.

Brrrrr!
I hope you got your papers eventually. Newspaper deprivation is one of the very bad things about being snowed in.
