Dared!

I dared to drive the new car into town this morning to the bank.   I asked the farmer to come with me as I am always a little nervous in a new vehicle.   In fact it seems exactly like the old one to drive, the only difference being that one has to depress the clutch before putting one's foot on the accelerator when starting.   Of course I didn't drive in the correct manner for the farmer.   I was too near the side of the lane, which threw up grit and the odd puddle and several times he pointed out that I was in the wrong gear.   But I swallowed any retort and pressed on.   After all, it is his car and he is happy for me to drive it, so I let all such comments go over my head.   Did any woman ever drive a car right for a man sitting in the passenger seat?   (incidentally, he never drives it right for me either, but I keep quiet about that too).

It is a very cold day here, although the wind has dropped.   My Tesco delivery man remarked on the pleasant day when he came with my order this morning.   I had to tell him that overnight the weather is set to get very stormy indeed, with gale force winds, some snow -everything but a plague of frogs - and I wouldn't rule that out.

I hate to drive the car with my husband in it. Fussy, fussy, fussy.

We've already had 4 seasons in one day here today so a plague of frogs could be next!
I'm never in the "right" gear either - so I'm told.

It's freezing up here today, we've had a few snow showers so far but nothing has settled. My hubby always moans I drive in the wrong gear and I always accuse him of speeding :)

It's cold here too Pat. Jon got a new van for the business 2 years ago - its a VW Transporter. It's like driving a bus! I've driven it once - on the Pickering Road I got a running report on my gears - I managed 10 minutes before handing it back! I never drive it now - even though I am insured through the business. I could drive in an emergency - but on my own! NOT with Jon next to me.

I never criticise my wife's driving skills, other than offering gentle guidance when needed.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't care for driving with the husband in the passenger seat. I always feel like I'm back in driver's ed.!
But, I must admit to making some rather not so complimentary comments on his driving on occasion.
Stay warm! and keep an eye out for those frogs. ;)

I never liked getting used to a new car and hated driving with my husband in the passenger seat. I had to put up with it to gain experience (I was in my 50s before I learned to drive) and as soon as I passed I let him drive when we were both in the car. I could cope with my nerves but not with his as well, and I wasn't that bad!
We have had dire weather warnings and after a lovely quiet morning with sunshine, the weather has gone rapidly downhill and the sky looks very threatening. What will be, will be.

same her re. driving my husband! I have noticed that my driving is more acceptable when driving us back from the pub than if i am daft enough to drive him there!

K is very patient - but I'm driving my car. I never drive his!

I consider it highly unlikely that one spouse would ever approve of the other spouse's driving. In my case, the one in the passenger seat is always gritting his or her teeth for at least part of the ride.

My husband is very good and thank heaven doesn't criticize my driving, but then I am pretty happy with his.We had a lovely inch of rain and it is still cool and pleasant, lovely summer weather as far as I am concerned.

Our first car was standard shift. To teach me to drive, my husband parked it on a steep hill, told me to get out and get it going. At the time I did not know a clutch from any other handbag in a store, got out and told him to take it home. I began walking.
As payback, I cheerfully taught any friend of mine how to drive a manual, after a friend taught me.
I am so glad you are driving again.

When one can drive, one is master of one's own fate. My husband praises my driving, calling me his designated driver. I always drive. His infrequent "suggestions & remarks" have diminished considerably in recent years as I have grown more placid. Stay warm, P

Neither my wife, nor my daughter, will ever drive with me in the car. I'd always imagined this was because they are so ashamed of their appalling skills.
