Christmas cards.

I love sending and receiving Christmas cards, catching up with friends old and new and exchanging news at this time of the year.   This is especially true of friends from far away who I probably only hear from at Christmas.

As usual I have done my Christmas card survey, so thought I would put it on my blog today as I clear the cards away and get ready to answer any letters in them.  (I know it is not Twelfth Night yet but I do tire of them once the celebrations are over and they start falling over)

We had ninety cards and out of the whole lot, forty nine were charity cards .
Of those ninety seventeen were wintry scenes, ten were robins, ten were Christmas trees, seven had just words on the front, six had a religious theme and all the rest came into categories where there were only one or two (Christmas stockings , snowdrops, old masters for instance).   Interesting that only six had a religious theme considering that it is a religious festival.

Now that the decorations are down and put away I must say that the whole place looks rather bare.   But my cleaner comes on a Monday morning and it will be nice for her  to dust around everywhere without anything to impede her progress.

It has been a wonderful day here today weather-wise with a clear blue sky, a light breeze blowing and non-stop sunshine - although cold.   Now, looking out of the hall window as I write this I see that there is a beautiful apricot coloured sunset to end the day.   I hope your day has been as good.

We are taking ours down tomorrow, I haven't decided whether or not to recycle them or make them into tags. We have had a lovely Wintery walk this afternoon, just the thing.

It is now so foggy here that we cannot see across the garden which doesn't tell you much if you don't know how big the garden is. However, the fog has come down very quickly, in a matter of minutes in fact. We took the cards and tree down today and the room here looks rather bare too. I am not a robot, where did that come from?

Now I wish I had sorted our cards into categories to see what we got before I cut them up. I did notice that 3 had choir boys around a Christmas tree. Snowy country scenes are always my favourites

Christmas afternoon my youngest granddaughter attempted to rehang her stocking on the mantle and started a chain reaction cascade of cards. She dutifully gathered the lot and started opening them on the mantle, but the adults in the room made the instantaneous decision that when the cards fall Christmas is over. It was a couple more days, however, before she and Uncle Tom took down the tree.

90! 90! Wow! I think i received 8.... Even the people i send them to don't send one back to me... but i send...it makes me happy... Even if you take away all the charity cards you received you still received alot of cards. How wondeful!

I'm packing my Christmas away today. Its a little sad to see it go. The house seems so full with it and empty with out it but it will be a good thing done by the first weekend of the New Year. I must pack it good for the move ahead... Have a wonderful day Weaver. And thank you for your reply on the Sheep Nuts...Hugs! deb

Personally my day has been good but weatherwise it has been cold, grey and dismal and I shall miss the lights when the decorations come down tomorrow. We have had a wide variety of cards and as you noticed with yours, only a few have a religious theme. Perhaps we are all afraid of offending each other!

Battling tail end of a nasty virus that just does not want to let go. Up at 4:30 AM all congested; but took some stuff, had a cup of tea, tripped over Josephine, and listened to the steady rain. It's about 55* here today. But only supposed to have a high of 23* Thursday with a low of 9*. Oh. Goody.
Always take my tree down on the 7th. Cards used to thrill me. Now, eh. But I do get excited about colored lights. Josephine left them alone this year. But last year, her first experience of lights, was another story. They were up exactly 30 seconds (no hyperbole here) when I heard the crunch of a taste test in progress.

I found there was a dearth of Christmas Cards this year, - lots of emails and happy Christmas greetings online though. The ones I truly miss are those from old friends, who sadly have gone on to further adventures wherever dear souls find themselves.

Great quantities of Christmassy snow here today, - it pleases my daughter who is never happy with green Christmases.

I took everything down too today and I feel so relieved. I started spring cleaning which is going to be a mammoth task. I'm sure you have the same problem with woodburners chucking ash everywhere! Happy new year. x

How good to send and receive 90 cards; we send and receive about 35. I purchased fabulous Christmas cards at a local store yesterday, half price, and with the theme of the birth of Jesus.

Wow - that is a lot of christmas cards - I think we got about 20 or 25. I didn't sort them into categories like you did. I used to send and receive a lot of cards but they have dropped off a lot in the last few years. And not one letter in the bunch.

I don't think that Christmas is a religious festival any more. It is more about spending and eating and telly, with a hint of carols for the brave. Our cards will be cut up as labels for next Christmas's presents. Nothing is wasted.

At least one of them wasn't a 'christmas' card though. But it's very difficult to find Yule cards that also support charities!

90 is a lot. How many did you send?

Why not make postcards out of some of the cards and send them on next year?

Interesting ideas for the use of this year's cards. I am afraid that if I did that I would have far too many tags and also I would probably lose them before next year.

I have always received and sent alot of cards - I love them so - but every year a few of my oldest friends die and the only way I usually know is because I don't get a card from them. Sad but true.

This year my Christmas card numbers were well down and I had emails from a few relatives and friends to say that because of the postage costs, they wouldn't be sending cards any more. This is very sad, because when you only have contact once a year, how on earth do you know whether people are still alive or not? I intend to telephone the few that I have numbers for, but I only have addresses for most of them. And if they no longer intend paying postage for cards, they aren't going to reply to my letters, are they?
