Still no more to eat.

I have no will power where good food is concerned.  The Christmas carvery yesterday was first class.   Huge turkey, huge joint of beef, various sauces, Yorkshire puddings, stuffings, potatoes (mashed and roast), swede (mashed) parsnips (chipped and delicious), sprouts, red cabbage, carrots, filled the counter from end to end - all piping hot and cooked to perfection.   I had some of everything apart from the Yorkshire pudding which I thought was the last straw.  (the farmer even added that to his plate).   There were eighty five eating there (fully booked) and I would hazard a guess that if you had removed everyone from the farming community there would have been no-one left.   There were some large tummies and some very healthy appetites.

All three of us really enjoyed our meal.   The farmer and I chose Christmas pudding for dessert, friend W had a lovely meringue.   She took a photograph of the dessert table for you to see - plenty of
calories there I am sure you will agree.

Sufficient to say that it is now a quarter to eleven on a Monday morning, my cleaner has just gone and I have had nothing to eat yet apart from one round of toast for breakfast.

Everyone in the restaurant worked jolly hard and I would guess they were there incredibly early in order to have everything ready.   The restaurant is itself run by the farmers who send their sheep down off the tops to spend the Winter on our farm.

I did intend to take a photograph of my full plate but forgot until it was an empty plate!

I hope those of you who popped over to view Cro's 'tree' were inspired to do something similar.   I see that Cro in his comments on my blog yesterday, says that he has added various bits of holly and ivy to the original branch.   I hope he puts an updated photograph on his blog today.

For me there is something magical about the build-up to Christmas Day - a build-up which for me comes to a head with the Nine Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve on BBC 1 - I never miss it and it always means the start of Christmas proper for me.   In the meantime there are lists to make and tick off so that I know haven't forgotten anything vital.   Are you a list-maker?   Or do you just trust to luck that everything will be alright on the day?

Yes a great list maker here Pat and am doing so right now. Jon was working this weekend so I cooked a chicken dinner yesterday and like yourself am eating nothing today.

I haven't had turkey yet this season, but I am looking forward to a turkey dinner with all the trimmings on Tuesday night. Your post had me longing for it!

I have lists of lists! But these days Christmas is a much quieter affair than it used to be. Easier on the brain and feet, but not nearly as much fun. Reading about your lunch made my mouth water - all those lovely veggies. I do like meat but for me it has to come with properly cooked veggies. I'm not sure I'd have room for pudding.

Your lunch sounds fabulous - the dessert table made me hungry for a treat.

I am a great list maker - I even have lists of my lists. I love checking things off a list. Today is a slow day for me - I've had a hilariously busy past week and decided today I'd do the christmas cards and then relax, but I find that not having a list for today has made me a little fidgety - maybe I'll make a short list - bake some bread, do the christmas cards, clean up in my studio, wash the bathroom sinks - then I'll feel like my day is headed in the right direction.

What a lovely spread and I am sure your skin felt too tight (as my late ma-in-law would have said) when you got up to come home! Thank goodness it's not every day you sit down to such a lavish meal.

I popped across to Cro's site to look at his tree, and think it is lovely. I am tempted to do something similar in our kitchen, although we will have a fir tree in the sitting room.

I used to be a great list-maker, but these days have a rolling list in my head, and I keep on top of the to do list fairly well.

Wow, what a spread - but then you are living in a cold country where you need a few more calories - or that could be your excuse anyway! I am a great list maker as well, but then I sometimes forget to look at the list at the last moment! Christmas here is not nearly as busy as it used to be when our children were small, but we have grandchildren to give us some excitement on Christmas day now.

Well I make lists all the time... at the moment it tends to be lists of ideas for my novel, lists of bits that need to be removed from the original script, and lists for shopping. But since we don't celebrate Christmas really - hardly any cards sent and no gifts exchanged - I don't have any of the hassle and stress that other folk have at this time of year. It's just another day....

I love Bovey Belle's comment about my skin feeling too tight - shall use that in future. I still haven't had a real meal as I still feel rather full.
If anyone tries Cro's idea for the branch please put it on your blog. I see he says that he has now added holly and ivy - hope he shows us the finished article too.
Thanks for calling.

I do much better when I remember to make a list ... the problem is I then forget where I put it !
