Only remnants remain.

Remnants of turkey and the last few slices of ham remain on the meat dish.   In the bowl a small amount of cranberry sauce languishes.   A few sad vegetables have been heated in the microwave today and eaten for lunch along with the remains of yesterday's trifle.   The Christmas cards begin to wobble, the decorations begin to suggest tawdriness and I am rather tired of twinkling fairy lights.   Yes, you've guessed it, Christmas is over for another year.
Of course it all has to remain for New Year's Eve - then it can all come down and be packed away for another year.   Bits can be vacuumed up and by the second day of January we will be back to normal (whatever normal is).
But yes, as usual we have enjoyed it all - feasting, laughing with friends - what could be better?
Sorry I haven't blogged but I have been too busy.   And thank you to friend W, who was so worried that I hadn't blogged that she rang in the middle of the festivities to see if I was ill.   Commiserations to her also as she has now gone down with the most awful feverish cold.   She sounds dreadful on the telephone - and, if you are reading this W, we missed her terribly this morning at our Friday coffee get together.  She must get better for New Year's Eve because she is coming to sample my salmon and leek pie at my New Year's Eve party.
Coming out of the Coffee House this morning the gale, which is blowing directly down the Market Square, caught me unawares and blew me about twenty yards down the road - very scary.   In order to cross the road and get back to the car I had to cling on for dear life.   Maybe I am getting old after all - and that after saying over coffee that from today I am reversing the figures in my age and dressing and acting accordingly.   So folks, from today I am 18 again and am looking for something classy, short and sexy to wear -
I suspect it is an impossibility.

Great post Pat, it definitely resonates with me as much of the same is going on here thousands of miles away!
Hope your friend - and that's a true friend who calls when no blog post shows up - is well soon. I have the sniffles but plan to be better for New Year's Eve in order to celebrate!
Perhaps 'short and sexy' is not a good idea with your current weather - how about warm and fuzzy down to the ankles - heavy enough to keep you grounded too, LOL!!

Happy New Year - will be here before we know it.
Hugs - Mary

Mmmm… that 'classy, short and sexy' little number sounds most interesting, Pat… But watch out for those wintry gusts, for God's sake!

Lovely written post today.
I felt sad as the "lonely cranberry sauce languishes".
I put my decorations up rather late for me so not sure when I will take them down. I usually clean up after the New Year. But then it is my birthday an it is never fun to be cleaning and packing on your birthday.

How are the chickens doing in your weather, are they being blown away ?

cheers, parsnip

It is rather like that here Pat. A post-Christmas salad beckons ( and I have eaten too much chocolate today....).

Happy New Year and enjoy your celebrations with friends.

I like the idea of switching numbers - though mine right now won't make a big difference - I'll wait a few years. Take care out there in the gales - don't want you blowing across the sea.

We ate the last of the cranberries last night and today turkey soup is simmering away on the stove.
When I was a little girl I begged to have our Christmas tree left up until my birthday, Jan. 8. Now that I'm in charge of such things it stays up until then. Yes, it gets a big ragged but I love having it there.

Happy New Year.

My decorations won't last much more than tomorrow. I get so fed up with them by Boxing Day. There will be a few lights left around for new year, but the baubles are destined for their boxes this weekend.

By the way - 18 year olds aren't supposed to be classy. So wear what you want!

We have been grazing on leftovers today but I did cook for us this evening.
Our youngest daughter who is not yet 40 was almost blown off her feet the day before yesterday, so it's nothing to do with age - some of those gusts are really strong. However, should you find the perfect short and sexy outfit - go for it!! Keep warm and safe, and free of germs for your New Year's Eve party and I hope your friend recovers in time to attend.
I love putting the decorations up but by the end of the year I can't wait to get them down!

Turkey and Ham pie tonight, and maybe a Turkey sandwich for lunch, then it's over. But I have another Turkey in the freezer; I love the smell of the roasting almost as much as eating them.

Our decorations stay up till 12th night, when we also go Wassailing.

Anything I wear gets muddy between the front door and the car, so I've given up. Only a few shreds of ham in the fridge here too. I'm glad it's nearly over!
