Alone.

The farmer has gone walking today with his walking group so I am here alone with Tess.   One advantage of this is that I can cook myself something for lunch which the farmer doesn't like.

Today it is undyed smoked haddock which I am just about to put into the Aga in a drop of milk and cook for a short time.   Then I shall put it on a plate and smother it in butter - pure indulgence for me.  I love smoked fish but the farmer is not a lover of smoked food at all.   After I have eaten it I shall open the kitchen window wide so that when he returns he doesn't have to have smoked haddock second hand.

For the first day for almost a fortnight the sun is not shining.   We awoke to fog; that has gone but a light rain keeps falling and the barometer is going back quite quickly.   Well, we shouldn't complain after a lovely spell of warm weather - let's all hope it returns before too long.

I have also just completed my supermarket order on line for Tuesday delivery.   I have been doing this for about six weeks now.  At first I got in a real muddle (egg custard tarts came as scotch eggs the first week and tinned custard the next week - but I have cracked it now (no pun intended)).   If you are one of those people who like to wander round the place looking at what is on offer and pushing your trolley up and down the aisles then fine - but I only go out of necessity and now I have planned my order-on-line I am loving it.

So - lovely lunch, lovely walk round the fields with Tess, lovely read for an hour and then the farmer will be back.   Enjoy your Sunday whatever you are doing.

We love fish, but hate the smell it leaves all over the house. Not so bad in the summer when you can open the windows though.
I find shopping online wonderful, for one thing I don't spend so much and they bring it right into the kitchen, so no carrying.
I once had 3 lemon tarts and 3 pavlovas delivered after my error in ordering, its easily done isn't it?
Overcast here too, but still not raining.

Sounds like a perfect way to spend your day. I love smoked fish but hubby doesn't so we never eat it at home - enjoy!! x Jo

I've never tried online grocery shopping and have a favourite supermarket which makes the task enjoyable.
Enjoy your lunch - I am about to eat mine in the garden before the clouds build up too much. We only have a snack mid-day and Dick is not back from his walk by the river. I have done my bit of gardening for today and have a new book to read.

Mmmm. Smoked haddock. The Farmer doesn't know what's good for him!

I suppose if you;re in all day and can have a choice of delivery times the supermarket orders are fine. But I hate having to start putting everything away late at night, but I can't risk an earlier delivery in case I'm stuck in traffic.

I do my shopping early - on the way to work. It's quiet then.

I would do on line shopping, but my grocery store does not deliver to my street yet. They will let me know when they do and I will make use of it.

I like smoked eel, but because I'm a vegetarian, I haven't eaten it in a long time. I only like to look at an eel when he has been smoked. I don't like the looks of them when they are still alive.

Sounds like a wonderful day, even with light rain. Our plans are sketchy right now - just doing whatever strikes our fancy, so fun times ahead I'm sure - and lots of relaxing.

Smoked Haddock with butter, a dish from my childhood. Lovely !
I remember my Mother bring home smoked fish all golden and we would open the waxed brown paper on the table and eat it with rye bread, butter and tiny pickles.

cheers, parsnip

On line shopping sounds like a really good idea. It hasn't caught on yet in our area. I wonder how they are at delivering frozen foods. I don't enjoy grocery shopping any more. The stores have become so large you have to walk a mile -- and woe betide you if you forget something and have to walk back a half dozen aisles.

Ever tried it with a poached on top? It's the traditional Lancashire way I believe.

You are so far ahead of us. Home delivery of groceries is still a way off here I'm afraid. And of course, my husband is one of those who love to stroll the grocery aisles. A bonus for me.

I tend to eat salmon and celery every night when he's away. xo

My husband was away on a fishing trip this weekend.... which means as little cooking as possible (fried cheese sandwichs and TV dinners. Your haddock sounds delicious!
