Found in the field.

Yesterday the farmer found the remains of a balloon bearing a tag in the hedge in our pasture.  He brought it back home.

I am not in favour of these balloons for the obvious reason that cows in particular are very curious creatures and would certainly investigate any such foreign body in the hedge.   Luckily, at this time of the year, there are no cattle out but there are sheep in the pasture so there is still a danger of the tag and remains of the balloon being eaten - and that is quite dangerous.

However, as an ex-teacher, I was delighted to read the tag - which I give you here with its lovely spelling.   It is from a child called Humera (not sure whether this is a boy or a girl):  "Please send me a letter and tell me what you like about where you live.  Thank you."

"I like living in Manchester because.....it has som pocs and heet in poc and shopng and panshop."   I have written back to Humera and sent a picture of Tess and just a little bit about the farm.   I do hope
he/she is on the look-out for just such a letter.

Communication....its all about communication, from balloons on tags, through letters (a dying art) and on to blogs.  Where would we be without communication?

I think it must be a girl because if it had been a boy he would have said he liked living in Manchester because he loved Manchester United (or perhaps Manchester City) and Humera didn't mention either, although I am not sure I know what she was talking about at all! Her balloon certainly picked a good place to land!

How neat, Pat! This reminded me of that famous E.M. Forster line from "Howard's End":

"Only connect! That was the whole of her sermon. Only connect the prose and the passion, and both will be exalted, and human love will be seen at its height. Live in fragments no longer. Only connect . . . "

I'm sure Humera will be delighted to actually get a reply - you just never know if anyone will find the message.

Your post has put a smile on my face, Pat. Let us know if there's a reply.

I learnt recently that thousands of cows die every year in India because they eat plastic bags that litter the streets, so I can see why such things as the balloon found on your land worry you. Charming, though, and it beautifully illustrates your point that we need to communicate.

I remember sending messages off in bottles at the beach as a child, desperate for a reply. Never got one, so Humera will be a very happy child when your arrives.

Love this..............even better than getting a handwritten letter appear in the mailbox.......seems an age since that happened to me sadly! I'll check my trees from now on for downed balloons!

Let us know when/if you hear back - which I hope happens.

Hugs -Mary

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment - as George rightly says
'only connect'.
