Flooding

Well folks, my prophecy of more rain certainly came true yesterday. I went to have lunch and to watch the fantastic Andy Murray match (didn't he do well?). It began to rain as we arrived (my friend had collected me) and it rained non-stop for the next six hours - not just a gentle rain but a very heavy downpour. The upshot was that when we came to leave at five o'clock to come home, it was impossible to get off her estate as everywhere was flooded, including many of the houses in the adjoining estate. Luckily she drives a four-wheel drive and we managed to crawl through the flood water very gently but the whole area was in absolute havoc with many houses flooded and whole loads of stones washed out on to the roads and drain covers lifted.

The farmer and his walking companions missed the rain until they were about two miles from their cars when the rain caught up with them and they all arrived home soaked to the skin and with all their picnic gear and rucksacks soaked too.

What is happening to our Summer? I hear from our weather forecasters today that the weather is about to pick up for a day or two with temperatures rising, but that it is likely to deteriorate again by the weekend. I must say I am rather glad I am not on holiday anywhere in this country.

We continue to win Gold medals in the Olympics - two today in the Horse Jumping (our first Gold in sixty years) and Cycling. As the lady in the Post Office remarked today to me when I went in - these Games have lifted the spirits of the whole country and given us all a wonderful tonic during a year when so much is looking black.

Well, as I said yesterday, rain, rain and rain again!

Ok, I agree, hurrah GB the Sports Olympics! But where are we in the Cultural Olympics, the Literary Olympics, the Culinary Olympics, I wonder? (He said controversially.)

Our worlds are just topsy turvy this year, that's for sure. You get sunshine in small bursts and we get rain in the same measure. But your Olympic medals are magnificent.

yes what would we be doing if the games didn't take our minds off the rain?!! stay safe!

With all this rain it's a wonder that we haven't done better in the swimming!

Congratulations on the Olympic wins. :) I've been cheering GB on. :) The weather has been really strange world-wide, I think.

It's been a horrible summer hasn't it? I've pretty much given up on a lot of my crops and have changed tactics - it's oriental greens from here on out ;)

All the gold metals are fabulous aren't they? Even Manxman Peter Kennaugh won gold last Friday!

I look on it as 'the summer that never was' and am wondering if perhaps September will bring us all a little spell of fine weather.
The Games are certainly a tonic and so many people I speak to are not sporty but have been caught up with all the excitement and enjoyed watched the TV coverage. What an enormous achievement all round by the athletes and organisers - a good poke in the eye for the miseries who predicted that nothing would be ready on time and chaos would reign.

we had a lovely day yesterday..... and I didn't know what all the fuss was about.... since taking the dog for a walk in lovely sunshine this morning it's since started raining.... and boy, is it ever raining....... we'd just about dried out from the previous downpours too!!

It does seem like the more it rains, the more it rains gold medals!

Even so, we could do with a let-up. Hope the floods soon subside for you and all your neighbours.

How terrible that you were flooded. The weather has been unstable everywhere but it hasn't been a real summer here either.

I am keeping an eye on that rain and feel for you. When we left England a month ago, it was overcast and rainy as it had been for the past three months. I thought surely...they will see the sun in August! One consolation is that your part of the world is beautiful rain or shine...at least that is how I look at it!

Sending you best wishes and many thanks for the lovely comments you have sent my way...
