A Little Work of Art.

What about this feather from a cock pheasant for an exquisite work of art? What dandies the males of the bird and animal species are. It was the same with the male of the human species but it seems to have died out these days.

I have nothing against sloppy T shirts and jeans and trainers chaps - but wouldn't a bit of dandyfying be nice sometimes.

When my dad was a young man he would certainly not wear anything flashy - he couldn't afford it for a start - but he would always wear a collar and tie (loose collar, starched and with two studs) and always, always wear a trilby hat when he went out. That trilby would be raised if he passed any lady in the street in our village, whether he knew her or not.

And, incidentally, this lovely feather would have gone straight into the hat band on his trilby - I suppose his nod towards dandyfying.

Nothing better than a well dressed man with manners.

...except a well dressed lady with no manners (no, only kidding), couldn't resist !

Those were the days Pat. There are still one or two gentlemen about, thank goodness, but they are becoming a rare breed.
The feather is beautiful and I love to see the sun shining on a pheasant's plummage lighting up all those wonderful colours.

I see many nice enough looking men. But then again, I do have an eye for them.

My Father always dressed that way too, though I don't recall him wearing a tie for some reason. His boots were polished to a high shine too.

I love birds feathers and i agree a nice bit of dressing up is a good thing on a man. I do know quite a few men who do make the effort too

Love this post! I have a collection of feathers from wild backyard birds that fly through my garden, including Red Tail Hawks. The vairety is startling. Lovely.

Beautiful, Weaver.

There's a line with men's dandifying, I find. I really do like men in good suits, and even hanker after the days of sports jackets, but taken just a little to far, and a little too self-regarding, and I've lost interest all together.

But I do think people should dress for place and occasion, which so many fail to do these days. I fear I am in the grip of fogeyism.

Sometimes I am a strutting cock, Weaver, but most of the time I'm just a cock.

I remember as a child my grandad wearing a hat, but the first time I saw my own dad (his son) wearing a hat was last summer on the beach. It was a straw version of a sort of trilby. It really suited him, he said he was wearing it 'cos his head was burning. He didn't like wearing it though. He felt conspicuous. Which is a shame.

Can only think that the rise of feminism and resulted in the fall of male dandyism. Thanks for the comments.

The feather is beautiful; such intricate patterns. It's a shame that the birds themselves are not the brightest in the flock!

It is good to see men smartening themselves up from time to time.

I love the feather. And yes, my dad would have put it into his hat band too.

Dad was 'allergic' to sunlight (actually just very sensitive to UV light, but he always called it an allergy) and had to wear a hat to stop his ears from developing ulcers. He had quite a few, and all had a decoration of some sort. It was about his only 'flash' tendency.

Quite a few hats, that is - not ears! :)

My dad has told me that his grandfather always farmed in a black dress coat, tie and bowler hat. The old farm is down the Coast Highway from me about 3 miles and is a car wash now.
