Thanksgiving

Very busy today - out for coffee with American friends over here for a few days and then out for a Poetry afternoon. As usual, we had a good, eclectic mix of poetry -RS Thomas,Betjamen, Tennyson, TS Eliot, DH Lawrence - to name but a few. I read some new poetry from the book I had for my birthday - An Anthology of New Poetry published by Carcanet. It is the most civilised afternoon and I always come home feeling refreshed.

But this does all mean that I have had little or no opportunity for find a blogging subject - so the blog today is to wish all my American blogging friends a very happy Thanksgiving Day tomorrow. May you all have a wonderful time with your families and friends and delicious food to eat - and may it be the start of a good year for you all.

Many thanks!
Thanksgiving is really a sort of Harvest festival sort of thing --with a great deal of turkey (poor turkeys!)

But since no gifts required it is relatively stress free.
Yes, your poetry afternoon sounds most civilized.

You write an interesting post even when you haven't found a subject. Your poetry meeting always sounds inviting, even to a non-poet.

Thank you very much! I made our pumpkin pie today and we started celebrating Thanksgiving early...we just couldn't pass up a piece of delicious pumpkin pie after supper tonight. Have a lovely day!

Thank you so much and a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. (You are so right - as much as I love blogging, it does consume a lot of time)

Even when you think you have nothing to write... you come up with an interesting post.

I will have Daughter and one Son for Thanksgiving this year. Son is cooking a Duck Breast for us and his wonderful stuffing. Vegetarian Daughter and friend will cook everything else. I will set the table, sit and talk while all the chopping and cooking goes on. Lovely.

cheers, parsnip

I love the sound of your poetry meeting. I want to try and set up something similar here. I have friends in California so I have sent wishes their way. :)

Have just read the farmer poem below which is splendid and touching.
I cannot think how I missed it before....

Your description of a civilised day is blog enough!

We just had the Austrian religious festival of Martini when millions of people stuff themselves silly with roast goose.

I saw 4 geese gathered under a tree in the centre of a field on the morning of the great gastronomic blowout.

I had a simple ratatouille.

I couldn't bring myself to join in. I guess I'm just a big softie at heart.

Thank you for the comments.

Ally - I came over to your site to say thanks for the review of Wuthering Heights but I could not get on to any page where I could leave a comment. We must live quite near together if you go to the cinema at Richmond.
