A Visit to Studley Royal Park.

A friend and I went out to lunch today. I had to go to the hairdresser in Ripon, so while we were there we went round an art exhibition in the Cathedral and then on to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal.

Lunch in the restaurant at Fountains Abbey was delicious. Pan-friend mackerel for my friend and Yorkshire rarebit for me. Then we had a tour round the National Trust Shop where I started my Christmas shopping!!

Then we toured round Studley Royal Park, which is attached to the grounds of Fountains Abbey. There are roe, fallow and sika deer - we saw them in the distance. The park was laid out more than three hundred years ago and is very beautiful. The sweet chestnut trees have the most fantastic gnarled trunks. The chestnuts were just beginning to fall and lay on the ground under the trees.

The weather was not desperately kind as there was a strong wind blowing but at least the sun was shining. I do hope this is not the last outing before Autumn sets in in earnest. St Luke's little summer is coming up and I am hoping for great things.

That sounds like a very pleasant day Pat. Lunch looks delicious, the grounds of the Park look beautiful and those tree trunks are amazing.

I've just popped over to your other blog to see what you have been up to. I think the nectarine is very good and I knew the stripes were fabric before I read what they were. I find painting very difficult. At least I have only had to paint squares of colour mixing so far but know there are some scary exercises ahead! I'll worry about them when I get there.

Wonderful that you enjoyed such a lovely day!
Thanks for your comment about honesty. I think you could say that your friend looked not as good as she looked in another dress. Honesty is ok if asked for but I personally don't like to be criticized without asking for it. I knew a woman who visited me regularly and who always found something in my house that she didn't like. She didn't hesitate to say so. I asked her not to come anymore. If you don't know to say something nice, don't say anything at all.

I always like to see the lunch that goes along with the outing....!
Yes, splendid trees but way too soon to see the chestnuts.
It's halfway between rain drizzle and not-rain today--the outer bands of some hurricane we missed.
I love your outings

It's ages since I went to Studley Royal. Not since before mum and dad died, which is 10 plus years now. Naybe it's time I did a North Yorkshire visit.

So lovely to see you out and about again Pat and just dashing off to the hairdresser;s and out to lunch. By the by, what does a Yorkshire rarebit consist of? It does look like a decent meal.
To be the keeper of such old chestnut trees with fairy tales galore between their toes would be a dream. I am always grateful to know of the existence of the ancients of our planet.

I do hope the weather holds for you so you can enjoy quite a few more lovely outings before you start sitting by the fireside again.

Sounds like a lovely outing. I don't have more to comment in regard to that as I've just finished An Enchanted April, per your suggestion. I loved it. I have so many comments in the text that I highlighted. Just seemed the perfect story - developed perfect calm and then excitement. Unpredictable. The characters so real to me. I hear there is a movie. Can't wait, but I often am disappointed as the characters are not large on screen as they are in print. Thanks for recommendation. Enjoyed it.

.........under the spreading chestnut tree......they were so beautiful dressed in their pink and white blossoms when I was there in Spring - hard to believe the fruit is now ready.

Sounded like a lovely day for you - and a yummy lunch.

Hugs - Mary

Yorkshire rarebit is cheese on toast and the cheese mixture is mixed with ale and mustard. It is very tasty.

Thank you for the comments.
