Two memes in one day!

TFE's challenge seems to come round so quickly. This week he suggested that we listen to Bruce Springsteen and then write something. The song he put on his blog was about one's hometown.

Over the week I have been doing a bit of research into song lyrics and (sorry you afficionados) really the lyrics strike me as a bit inane. (Bob Dylan - my hero - excepted of course.) So here is my poem for today, Peader. I have tried to write my own lyrics on a similar theme to hometown. If anyone wants to set it to music - feel free!

Homebird.

There are rooks and crows and

everybody knows

that they all flock together

in the wintry weather.

As they all fly by

in the wide blue sky -

where am I to be found?

With my feet on the ground -

I'm a homebird.

Dooby-dooby-dooby-doo.

There are deserts in Arabia

and great walls in China.

I've been there, done that

even been to Carolina.

But when I stood on the wall

and when I went to Nepal,

Where did I want to be,

back home across the sea -

Cos I'm a homebird.

Dooby-dooby-dooby-doo.

There are planes to the North

and trains to the South.

Ships sail the ocean

and it gives me the notion

to go off on the track

with a pack on my back.

But when I get there

I just want to be here -

I'm a homebird.

Homebird! Homebird!

a travel around, head in the air,

feet on the ground - homebird!

- unlimited dooby doos to follow. PT

And now for Derrick's meme - we have to put on a photograph which is a failed one. Believe me Derrick I have hundreds of those. Luckily these days we can delete them rather than pay to have the rubbish printed off. Most of my abject failures involve moving figures which have just moved too fast for me to snap. This one is no exception.

I love the poem/lyrics - funny and merry and happy and full of delight (and about as opposite to mine piece today as it could be!). I think you have a talent for rhyme (and not everybody does - it's not as easy as some think). Cue Dominic to give yours a tune...you could have a number one on your hands!

Great photo too. Who needs heads?

Your poem is very funny! We have those inane songs in Holland too. As long as it rhymes. You wrote a great parody!
I love it, I love it!
I nearly got a fit!

Love the photo Weaver - we've all taken plenty of those. I love your lyrics too and think that if some songwriter is bloghopping you may have found a new career!!

The unlimited dooby doos made me giggle. I loved this. I posted a poem for TFE's Monday thing, but I missed the part about Springsteen. Oh, well.

Rhyming Nepal and wall had me bursting out laughing - the whole thing is really, really clever, Weaver. I got a huge kick out of it - a great way to stat the day - with laughter!

Actually the photo is most effective - that woebegone tail would make me give a huge donation to the local animal rescue! Oooh be doooby doo!!! And I am a bit of homebird myself. I like to fly the coop every now and then to lands unknown but very soon I am homesick and long for my own backyard. That has taught me not to get too carried away when making out of town bookings for vacations! Unlimited ooh be dooby doos to follow!

I was wondering if the dog was going to leave some dooby doos as well! Now no one will be able to visit Yorkshire without dooby dooing. (What ever that is).
This is a wonderfully funny post and your song is really great. The lyrics flow, absolutely. By reading through it I can tell Yorkshire is truly your home.

Another fan of the dooby doo here. That poem was light and full of joy at being a homebird - loved it.

Hello Weaver,

My feet are tapping as I read along - great song! Super pic too, pity Tess was a bit quick off the mark! Thanks for being a sport.

That's a lovely photo, i like photos that show an animal escaping being captured!

I like your poem too and can relate, the older I get the more of a homebird i am.

Not all song lyrics are banal, Leonard Cohen and The Indigo Girls just two that leap to the top of my mind as writing great lyrics.

A wonderful lyric - it sings itself!

Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap .... Bravo Weaver! Its brilliant and I certainly don't think the photo is a failure. That poor dog stood on the crack (I did say crack) in the sidewalk. How does the rhyme go? ...."Stand on a line and marry a swine".

That was great Weaver! Loved the touch of humor.
It's wonderful to have the internet to see any place I want to and though it's not the same as visiting in person one gets the general idea.
I'm a homebird too so can appreciate your words. A much enjoyed poem.

Oh Weaver, more of the same from me I'm afraid. Just love those dooby doos. But I like the sentiment behind it all too.

Think your photo might have the title 'A Bit Of A Wag On A Paving Slab'...

Really good song lyrics, these. I'll get my guitar out and see what I can do...

I never see those words without thinking:

"To be is to do"--Socrates.
"To do is to be"--Jean-Paul Sartre.
"Do be do be do"--Frank Sinatra. :)

Dominic's comment brought to mind a certain 'Mrs-DO-As-You-Would-BE-Done-By'. My mother was always quoting this. Is this from Kipling or similar? Anyone know?
